This drive also temporarily contained a bootable clone of the Dell (not ideal for a clone as it is mixed up with stuff). It also happens to be stuffed with media files and miscellaneous rubbish. I also have a quick'n'dirty TM backup of my Dell mini hackintosh on a another spare 500GB 2.5" drive which is mounted in an enclosure. I have TM switched off, when I want to add a backup I just plug in the drive and press "Backup Now"

My main TM drive for my Macbook Pro and my Mac Mini is a 500GB 2.5" WD Elements drive. If possible i'd like to be able to throw some media files onto my E/HD to keep my MBP HD a bit emptier. Would that work with a non Time Capsule External HD? I love having a backup ready to go, but its feel as though i'm wasting a bit of money in only having the Ext HD for a backup that i may not need. It's ok as long as you only backup occasionally, but not so useful if you rely on hourly backups for multiple computers. The problem is each computer needs access to the drive. Each computer makes it's own folder inside the backups folder, each is named according to the computer name associated.

You could also use the same TM backup drive for any other computer you may have for it's TM backups as well. It can co-exist with any files and folders you have on there too, the backup folder just dynamically expands as your backups grow. Time Machine makes a backup folder on the designated disk (called backups.backupdb). You don't want to have to re-size the partitions after the fact, if possible. In fact it makes it less flexible if you do since you are limiting the size of the partitions - what seems ok today may not be ok tomorrow. If someone could give me some advice/insight into both the iSight and Time Capsule questions that would be great. Can I use the Time Capsule for both a Time Machine back up and as regular storage.

I am thinking of getting a 2TB Time Capsule to replace the WD HD for more storage capacity and because I can't stand the WD Smartware software which insists on putting an icon on my desktop which as well as being annoying I can't get rid of. The iSight uses a firewire 400 connection for audio, video and power. My other predicament is that I have a Mac Mini with only one firewire 800 port which is being currently used by a 320GB WD external HD for my Time Machine backup. How does it compare with current Mac compatible web cams especially at that price. I'm wondering if they were any good and if they will work with VOIP software like Skype in particular. I don't remember how much they were brand new and realise they have long been discontinued. network cards, Workspace Control will use the MAC address of the first enabled network card. TL DR: If you need to record Skype calls, and record them with excellent quality and options, you won't find a better or more flexible suite of software tools to do so than this.I've seen a second hand iSight for sale for £50. Rarely have I had an issue that caused it not to work, or caused Skype to crash, and the Ecamm team is always quick with updates and fixes. I purchased this all the way back in 2013, and have never had to pay for an update.

I also have to give it to Ecamm for support. While $30 might be a bit much for someone who would only use this occasionally, for me it has payed for itself multiple times over. Sound quality is as good as you can get from Skype (local audio always sounds better than the audio you're receiving, assuming you have a good mic, I presume because of Skype's compression). There are tons of options for quality and frame rate so even with a slower Mac, you can get a good quality recording.
